I write criticism, make experimental films, paintings, and installation works, and teach visual studies at Haverford College. I was a middling athlete through high school and played a bit of college soccer. I have an L5–S1 Spondylolisthesis: erging is one of the only high intensity exercises I can manage without pain! I hope to be on the water someday! My kid rowed through high school and into college; I respect the dedication of serious rowers!

Update: my spondy flared up in May of 2024 after a sprint PR. Ugh. So, I stopped. And slowly I'm beginning to train again. Low pressure. No challenges. I miss the competition. Surgery someday. But not yet.
